Control encoders via Midi
There may be situations where you want to control the encoders of grandMA onPC via Midi. This is not directly possible. However there is a workaround to achieve that.
First of all you'll have to download and install two programs.
#1: Bome's Midi Translator
#2: Midi Yoke
The downloads can be found here.
After that you'll have to create shortcuts for the encoders in grandMA onPC. I'll show it to you with the first one. You can create shortcuts for the other encoders in the same way.
Click on the yellow ball in the top left corner and select shortcuts
In the Shortcutwindow you should create 3 shortcuts for each encoder. One for encoder up, one for down and one for pushing the encoder. Under Programmable - New Shortcut select the modifier (in this case the CTRL-key) and the key you want to use as a shortcut. After that you select the command that you wnat to use this shortcut for.
Once you're done with the three shortcuts your window could look like this:
Now you have to enable your custom shortcuts. To do this enable "Use Programmed Shortcuts". Close the window by clicking "OK".
Ok, your shortcuts are programmed. Now you'll have to tell grandMA onPC what Midi interface it should be using. Click on the yellow ball in the top left corner and select "Options".
In the dropdown box "Midi In" select "MIDI Yoke NT: 1" and close the window by clicking "OK".
Your configuration of grandMA onPC is complete. Now you have to configure Bome's Midi Translator.
After starting Bome's Midi Translator you have to configure the Midi Input. Click on Midi In and select the Midi device that you're using to receive the Midi messages from your external device.
Now you click on Translator -> Add.
Enter a name for this translator. For example 1Up.
Select this translator and click on Translators -> Edit. A new window will open. Enable "Capture Midi" and do the action on you external device that you want to use as Encoder 1 Up. The messages will appear in the window and you select one.
Click on Outgoing and then on Key Stroke. Enter the shortcut for Encoder 1 Up by pressing that shortcut. The shortcut will be diesplayed in the window.
Repeat the steps for creating and configuring translators for every single shortcut.
Finally you have to make sure that grandMA onPC has the focus so that the shortcuts are being sent to grandMA onPC.
